With over 23 years in law enforcement, I have dedicated my career to public service and community safety. My journey began in November 2002 as a Deputy Sheriff with the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office. In February 2012, I was promoted to Corporal and became a Field Training Officer. Shortly thereafter, in April 2012, I advanced to Senior Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division.
In July 2013, I applied for and was selected to join the Metro Narcotics Division, where I served for approximately seven years. On June 10, 2020, I was promoted to Sergeant and returned to the Uniform Patrol Division. Most recently, in March 2024, I transitioned to the Criminal Investigations Division, where I currently serve as the Property Crimes Supervisor.
On a personal note, I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 22 years, and we have a 14-year-old daughter. Both have played a significant role in my career—serving as my greatest supporters, honest critics, and constant sources of motivation. Their love and sacrifice inspire me to be better in all aspects of life.
I am honored to have been selected for the thirty-second session of the National Command and Staff College, and I look forward to the opportunity for growth, leadership development, and continued service to my community.

Sgt. James Humphrey, Ouachita Parish Sheriff, LA ~ [email protected] ~ 318-331-3580

Having almost twenty-four years of law enforcement experience, it has been an honor to serve and protect the citizens of Ouachita Parish.
My career began in August of 2001 when I was hired at the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office and assigned to work in Corrections at the Ouachita Parish Correctional Center. After graduating from the North Delta Regional Training Academy and becoming POST Certified, I was able to transfer to the Patrol Division.
After serving in the Patrol Division for over seven years, I was afforded the opportunity to transfer to the Investigations Division in November of 2009. I was able to accomplish several goals in the Investigations Division which include being part of starting the Violent Crimes Unit. The sole focus of this group was to investigate violent crimes against people to include, but not limited to homicide, robbery and violent assaults.
In November of 2013, I was selected to join the Federal Bureau of Investigations-Internet Crimes of Against Children Task Force. I served almost nine years in this capacity and was able to track sexual deviants who preyed upon the most innocent members of our society.
In February of 2022, I was able to transfer back to the Patrol Division and accept a promotion to Sergeant. As a front-line supervisor, I take great pride in being able to lead and guide deputies assigned to my shift. I also supervise new officers who are starting their careers in law enforcement and are a part of the FTO Program.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible if it weren’t for the support of my beautiful wife and our three children. We have been happily married for almost twenty-one years and she is my rock. I appreciate being selected to attend the thirty-second session of the National Command and Staff College and I look forward to growing as a leader.
