Sgt. Justin Montover, Mesa County Sheriff, CO ~ [email protected] ~ 970-986-1143
My name is Justin Montover, I am a western Colorado native. I grew up in the Glenwood Springs area and have resided in the Grand Junction area for about 15 years. I began my adult career working with a family owned construction and excavation company.
I ultimately decided to change my career path due to a desire to serve people and the community. I began the enlistment process in the United States Army but due to an unfortunate accident and personal injury I had to withdraw and change the direction of my career. Ultimately, I enrolled in Colorado Mesa University and completed the Western Colorado Peace Officer’s Academy. I began my law enforcement career with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office as an Operations Deputy in 2013.
During my career, I have worked as a Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer Sergeant, Property Crimes Investigations Sergeant, Field Training Officer Sergeant, and currently am assigned as our Professional Standards Unit Sergeant.
I am a dedicated family man and have been married to my wife for 11 years; we have a blended family consisting of six children. I value integrity, humility, authenticity, and hard work. I strive to live by these characteristics in my personal and professional life. I enjoy time with my family above all; and I also enjoy powerlifting, physical exercise, and snowmobiling.
I am excited to attend the National Command and Staff College and the knowledge and career growth the opportunity provides.
Sgt. Craig Bowen, Mesa County Sheriff, CO ~ [email protected] ~ 970-986-0599Â
My name is Craig Bowen, I was born in La Mirada, California. I was adopted from La Mirada Memorial Hospital a short time later. Approximately 8 years after being adopted, my parents divorced. After my parent’s divorce, I lived with my mother growing up mostly in small towns around Colorado and Utah. I graduated high school in the Salt Lake City area and attended a trade college for Mechanics at Universal Technical Institute, in Phoenix, AZ.
Due to what I considered to be a rough upbringing, I knew from a young age, I wanted to be a Police Officer. With help from family in 1990, I was able to put myself through the Utah Peace Officers Academy and after graduating, I began my law enforcement career with the Moab Police Department.
In 1996, my wife and I made a joint financial decision for us to place my law enforcement career on hold and to embark on a journey of starting our own automotive repair business. With that, my wife and I moved to Grand Junction, Colorado and started an automotive repair shop which we owned and operated for almost twenty years.
My wife and I made another decision which allowed me to get back to the life and career path I knew I had been called to do from a young age. That decision ultimately led me to becoming a Deputy with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in 2015. Since joining the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in 2015, I have been a ASU Officer, a Detentions Deputy, a Detentions Field Training Officer, a SORT Operator, a Detentions Sergeant, a SORT Team Leader, and a Professional Standards Unit Sergeant.
My wife, Julie, and I have been married for over 33 years and have been together for over 40. We have two children and three granddaughters.
My core values of faith, integrity, service, responsibility, determination, boldness, and courage guide me in all aspects of my life; with my faith being the cornerstone.
I am grateful to have the opportunity to be part of the National Command and Staff College and look forward to the lessons and skills I’ll learn.

I then moved on to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office where I expanded my experiences to investigations, SWAT, Honor Guard, Field Training Officer and EVOC driving instructor. I then served a short stent at the Delt Police Department before starting my time with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office. Here, I continued to serve as a Field Training Officer and driving instructor. In my current role I lead the Crime Reduction Unit along with holding positions as a Firearms Instructor and a Master Taser Instructor.
I have found my passion in developing and implementing impactful changes within the organization over the course of my career. I am continuously identifying and analyzing new and historic processes or procedures with scrutiny in an attempt to better the lives of those in my charge and ultimately produce a better product for the citizens of the county I serve. I continue to look for personal development opportunities to grow and learn the many nuances and complexities incumbent upon leaders and formal supervisory positions and I am excited at the opportunity to participate in the Command and Staff Program having completed the MANGUS Leadership introductory course.
