Sgt. Craig Bowen, Mesa County Sheriff, CO ~ [email protected] ~ 970-986-0599

My name is Craig Bowen, I was born in La Mirada, California. I was adopted from La Mirada Memorial Hospital a short time later. Approximately 8 years after being adopted, my parents divorced. After my parent’s divorce, I lived with my mother growing up mostly in small towns around Colorado and Utah. I graduated high school in the Salt Lake City area and attended a trade college for Mechanics at Universal Technical Institute, in Phoenix, AZ.

Due to what I considered to be a rough upbringing, I knew from a young age, I wanted to be a Police Officer. With help from family in 1990, I was able to put myself through the Utah Peace Officers Academy and after graduating, I began my law enforcement career with the Moab Police Department.

In 1996, my wife and I made a joint financial decision for us to place my law enforcement career on hold and to embark on a journey of starting our own automotive repair business. With that, my wife and I moved to Grand Junction, Colorado and started an automotive repair shop which we owned and operated for almost twenty years.

My wife and I made another decision which allowed me to get back to the life and career path I knew I had been called to do from a young age. That decision ultimately led me to becoming a Deputy with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in 2015. Since joining the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in 2015, I have been a ASU Officer, a Detentions Deputy, a Detentions Field Training Officer, a SORT Operator, a Detentions Sergeant, a SORT Team Leader, and a Professional Standards Unit Sergeant.

My wife, Julie, and I have been married for over 33 years and have been together for over 40. We have two children and three granddaughters.

My core values of faith, integrity, service, responsibility, determination, boldness, and courage guide me in all aspects of my life; with my faith being the cornerstone.

I am grateful to have the opportunity to be part of the National Command and Staff College and look forward to the lessons and skills I’ll learn.
